 | Poulsbo Restaurants | Tips 1 - 8 of 8 | | Popular Restaurants | Other Restaurants Tips | All Tips (8) Sluys Poulsbo Bakery is probably best known for inventing Poulsbo bread, which is sold at Safeway grocery stores and other outlets all over the U.S. We buy it at home in Seattle sometimes. It's hearty and good, but not as rough as whole wheat bread. But that is not why I stop here every time we visit Poulsbo. Oh no! I come for the delicious pastries and other baked goods. They have things you'd expect like cinnamon rolls and almond butter horns, and then they have other yummy baked goods that I haven't seen elsewhere, like what my Czech grandma used to call kolache. Checkers is so named because the few tables here all have checkerboards painted on them, so you can play if you wish. This is the perfect stop for a snack or a little caffeine pick-me-up. Besides ice cream they also have a few other desserts, and a rotating selection of paintings or other fine art for sale on the walls. A nice place to hang out.

JJ's is a casual place on the back side of Front Street, looking towards the waterfront. In summer you can sit outside. It hasn't been especially quiet when we've been here, because it seems pretty popular. The seafood is good, if not exceptional. Last time we were here we just stopped in for beers and an appetizer of fried calamari, which hit the spot. Norweigans may have founded this town, but Hispanics now make up about 5% of the population, so don't be surprised to find this good-quality Mexican restaurant here. We've eaten here three times and it's been great every time. They make excellent piņa coladas, too! Look for it down the alley with laundry hanging on clotheslines strung across. My family frequently has birthday party celebrations here and we keep coming back year after year. The menu choices are great, the food is ALWAYS really good and the service is always top notch. It is located right downtown, within a 5 minute walk to the Liberty Bay marina & waterfront. Easy to walk to, parking is usually not a problem. Guess who ate here several years ago? JFK Jr and Caroline Bessette! They have a plaque next to the table they sat at
If you like pasta, you have gotta try the Fettucine Alfredo. The pizza is also always a winning choice. Visit the website below for the full menu and prices. Leave a Comment

Upstairs above the newely opened Europa Deli on Front Street. Right next door to Sluy's Bakery. Go up the stairs and be rewarded with a casual setting, beautiful view from the deck in summer and wonderful service. There is a large foreign beer selection. Great rustic German, Italian food. Rob DiFilippo and Tammy Mattson are owners and they are really looking to enhance downtown Poulsbo and bring energy to the town. The food is wonderful!
German Schnitzel with red cabbage. Fresh, large cutlet with a crisp panko coating. Flavorful and light. Nothing at this restaurant is deep fried. Generous portion and simply prepared. Everything is prepared from scratch. The restaurant is family friendly. The bar area is separated from the rest of the tables for families. Look for the flying flags from european countries. Haven't been to it yet but they just opened a european deli downstairs called Europa Deli.Website: www.tizleys.com
